Terms & Conditions

  • Entrants must be Year 1 to Year 8 students currently enrolled in a New Zealand school (or verified home-schooling equivalent).

  • The entry must be a story, poem or piece of creative writing no longer than 300 words. It MUST be the original, unpublished work of the entrant. Do not incorporate another person's trademarks, copyright or intellectual property in the entry (for example, do not use brand names).

  • Entries will be accepted in any language, but must include an English translation. Only the English version will be judged and may be published.

  • Entries may be typed or handwritten, but must be easily readable.

  • You can enter as many times as you like. Each entry must be on a separate entry form. Entries will not be returned.

  • The entry must be attached to an official entry form (original or photocopy). Additional entry forms can be downloaded from the website www.nzpostbookawards.co.nz

  • Entries must be must be delivered, postmarked or uploaded no later than 30 April 2011. Entries can not be accepted by fax. New Zealand Post takes no responsibility for late or misdirected entries.

  • 50 entries will be chosen to be published. These will be selected by New Zealand Post's judging panel, and successful entrants will be notified by 30 June 2011, by phone or email. The judging panel's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  • New Zealand Post may publish the winning entries without further payment to entrants. Copyright in each winner's entry must be assigned to New Zealand Post by written agreement from the entrant's parent or legal guardian. If New Zealand Post are unable to obtain copyright in any winner's entry within a reasonable time, that entrant will not be eligible for a prize and the judging panel reserves the right to select a replacement.

  • Each participating school or relevant home school association will receive a copy of the collection.

  • The school with the most eligible entries relative to the size of the school will win the "most creative school" award. If there is more than one winning school, a random draw of these schools will determine the winner. The school will receive $1000 in Booksellers Tokens from Booksellers New Zealand. Home school entries will not be eligible for this prize.

  • One entry will be randomly drawn each week starting from the week of 21 March 2011 at 5pm Friday and continuing until the week of 25 April 2011. The draw winner will be notified before Monday 5pm the following week. Draw winners will receive a finalist book from the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards 2011, selected by New Zealand Post. All entries received will be entered in all subsequent weekly draws, but may only win once.

  • Prizes are not transferable and can not be exchanged for cash.

  • By accepting a prize, each winner acknowledges that his or her name and photograph may be used for publicity purposes.

  • New Zealand Post is collecting your details only for the purpose of this competition and publication of the collection. After the winners have been notified, all unsuccessful entries and entry forms will be destroyed. You may look at and correct any personal information that we hold about you.

  • Entry into the competition signifies acceptance of these terms and conditions.
